Valentina’s family is from the Windhelm area originally. She went to the college of Winterhold to become a mage and was extremely well-versed in Destruction magic, and especially shock-based spells. She returned home to visit her family and go with them to Whiterun for a visit. As they traveled south, the family was set upon by a pack of vampires and their Master. Every member of her family were fed upon and killed but she was spared. The Master vampire had a keen interest in the beautiful mage and her unique gifts with destruction magic.

The master made Valentina his thrall and experimented on her with magic and vampiric spells. He forced her to do terrible things to innocents they happened upon in the wilderness. Over time, she learned to meld her vampire spells with her destruction spells like no vampire before. The master vampire was incapable of love, but he did covet the rare vampire mage. After a time, Valentina refused to do the things he asked her to do, even under threat of torture or death. At one point, he starved and tortured her so badly she nearly perished. Seeing that she would not relent, he took her to an abandoned prison that had been flooded and was now filled with ghosts. He locked her in a cell there and told her he would one day find her again, after she had learned her lesson.
Valentina lost time during her imprisonment. There was no way to tell if it was night or day, or how many days had passed. She became almost crazed from blood thirst. She went into an extreme state of focus, trying to be as still and lifeless as possible in order to survive longer. During this meditative state, she felt a living soul close to her prison. She used an extreme effort of will to call out to this person to rescue her.

Shortly after, a young warrior entered the prison and did battle with the ghosts. As he approached her cell, she hid her vampire visage from him in hope that he would free her without being horrified. As the man entered her cell, she heard a voice from thin air warning him not to help her. She looked up at him in horror, thinking she would never be free of this prison. Instead of shy away, the warrior knelt before her with a look of pity on his face and asked how he could help her, ignoring the advice of the voice that had spoken to him. Valentina wanted to be free. She wanted to go home, but knew that wouldn’t be good due to her new nature. She simply asked the warrior take her from the prison.
In time, she learned that he was known as Vulkus. She also learned that he had some type of spiritual guardian, perhaps an actual Valkyrie, watching over him. This made him special, but to Valentina, who quickly fell in love with him, he was simple her whole world. He nursed her back to health, providing blood from animals at first, and then letting her feed directly from his own wrist. It seemed that for some reason he was immune to the vampire curse. Over time the two became lovers and traveled across Skyrim together.

Months after her release from the prison, Vulkus and Valentina were attacked by a platoon of Vigilants of Stendarr vampire hunters. They put up a glorious fight, but were highly outnumbered. Vulkus killed at least ten Vigilants with his giant axe as Valentina turned many to ash with her blood magic. At the end, Vulkus stood over her and fought until a final spear thrust in his heart ended his life. With nothing to live for, Valentina lay by his side as the Vigilant leader walked up to deliver a killing blow to end her life. Except that wasn’t what happened. A flare of light blinded her as a tall and beautiful woman in glowing silver armor appeared before her with shield and sword. As the leader slashed down his blade, the woman’s blade blocked the stroke and returned a stroke of its own taking the Vigilant’s head. The woman then systematically killed every Vigilant on the field as Valentina watched in awe. Realizing this was the same person who tried to talk Vulkus out of rescuing her, she knew at once that this was a Valkyrie who had just saved her life.
The Valkyrie suddenly disappeared and Valentina was alone. Part of her wanted to scream at her savior for sparing her life when she had nothing left. Then a spark kindled in her. She wanted revenge. She wanted to find the master vampire who killed her family. She wanted to eliminate every Vigilant of Stendarr in Skyrim. As she lay there planning her vengeance, she saw another flash of light and the Valkyrie was back. Although she was changed. No longer wearing shining silver armor, she stood before Valentina in normal armor and no longer glowed brightly like a spirit. The Valkyrie looked down upon her and smiled. A knowing smile. It was like looking into a mirror. She reached her hand down to help Valentina up and the two women walked away to plan their future. “Gods be damned.” The Valkyrie said to Valentina.
